MR Claim Management: What It Is and Why It Matters
How maintenance reserve claims are reviewed, verified, and processed in aircraft leasing.
When a qualifying maintenance event occurs on a leased aircraft, the lessee carries out the work and submits a claim against the maintenance reserve fund for reimbursement. Processing that claim accurately and fairly is what MR claim management is about.
It sounds straightforward. In practice, it requires both technical understanding and financial discipline to do properly.
What Does a Claim Involve?
When a lessee submits a claim, it comes with supporting documentation: invoices, work orders, technical records confirming the scope of work carried out. The claim is reviewed against the reserve entitlement defined in the lease. What component was worked on, whether the event qualifies, what cost is eligible for reimbursement, and whether the invoice reflects the actual work done.

This is not a rubber stamp exercise. Work scopes can vary. Invoices can include items that fall outside the lease entitlement. Costs can be queried where they appear inconsistent with market rates or the agreed scope. Each of these requires a reviewer who understands both what the lease says and what the maintenance actually involved.
Why Does It Matter?
The reserve fund is finite. Every claim paid out reduces what remains available for future events. An undisciplined claims process, where invoices are accepted without scrutiny, can deplete a reserve fund faster than the accrual rate can replenish it, leaving the owner exposed when the next major event falls due.
“The objective is accuracy: paying what is owed, querying what is not, and maintaining a fund position that reflects the true maintenance status of the aircraft.
Equally, an overly restrictive approach that disputes legitimate claims creates friction with the lessee and can damage the operating relationship. The objective is accuracy: paying what is owed, querying what is not, and maintaining a fund position that reflects the true maintenance status of the aircraft.

Voler Haut Aviation
MR claim management is an integral part of our lease management practice. We review claims grounded in technical knowledge, referenced against the lease agreement, and documented clearly so that every decision is defensible.
